Aidan started to speed up, the feeling of being watched was overcoming his mind, making his adrenaline kick in, and fear raging war. He didn't really think there was anyone there, but the shadows seemed to be an entity of their own and it really didn't help his paronia.
Once they reached the stair well, he walked into the lobby, holding the door for Viola. He shook his head and looked again. 'Funny,' he thought, 'I could have sworn someone was waving goodbye.' He just passed it off as the shadows again and led Viola towards the door.
When he had turned around a shadow creeped up to the door and waved bye to Aidan and Viola. The lone man in the lobby, stared dumbfounded at the sight. Then he giggled and walked towards it in an alcohol-induced stupor.

Viola started to get a little creeped out by the shadows. Everything seemed to be following her, watching her every move. She walked quickly out the door, hoping to be rid of the shadows as soon as she walked out outside.
She was still excited to head to the Police Department. Viola hadn't talked to Kern for a while, so she was also glad to talk to him about the past cases. "So do you have any idea's on the case yet, or are you just as confused as I am about some of the things."

Aidan sighed, "for once, I have no clue where to start at. There are no possible motives from any known aquaintances, and no known enemies." He ran his hand through hair. "Really there are no clues. No fingerprints, unknown DNA, nothing." He smiled at her as he turned around to walk backwards, facing her as they talked.
"You know though, I believe that between the two of us, we can find the killer and put them away!" As he made the exclamation he pointed his finger in the air as if a gun and then laughed.

Viola giggled knowing that he was probably right. They had helped Aidan's father with tons of cases before, even if their parents hadn't liked it. Speaking of parents, why hasn't her mom called her. Oh, yea. She said she had to work late.
She walked up to Aidan and hugged him. It had been a while since they had actually spent this much time together what with school and her job. He was her best friend and she really loved. Maybe even more than just friends, but Viola would never tell Aidan that. Why ruin a relationship that is already great?
"So do you think that we might be able to find anything that will get us on a lead by tonight?" Viola wrapped her arm around his waist as they continued to walk to the Police Department.

Aidan shrugged, "well... we may be able to get the actual autopsies. Plus I bet my dad has some notes from the crime scenes. Now that would be a big help." He looked around and pulled his coat a little closer to his skin. What was it that made this night so cold?
As they got closer to the police station, he saw many police cars, sirens and all, heading towards the police station. He started to speed up, wondering what was going on now.

The flashing lights and sirens sent a chill down Viola's spin. Something had happened and it was bad if it happened at the Police Station. She grabbed Aidan's hand and started to drag him towards the scene of the crime.
There were police everywhere and the lights were blinding. Viola could over hear them speaking about a death. A death? Who died at the Police Station? Who else was here besides Aidan's dad?
Relization flooded through her body. Aidan's dad. No it can't be him! It can't! But her thought was proven true as the name was called out by the police. Kern was dead.
Viola slowly grabbed Aidan's hand and turned her body toward him. She couldn't look into his eyes.

Aidan just stared blankly at the scene as he took it in. Then he fell to his knees. He felt like something had been shattered in him and it couldn't be repaired. He didn't realize that he was still holding Viola's hand or that tears were silently falling. Why? he thought. Why my dad? why?! He saw some police officers spot him and recognize him.
It wouldn't be long now before they would come up to talk to him. To tell him how he died and that he had to go identify the body or something like that. He knew that his father died because he was too close to something... and he had a feeling that the something had to do with the case they were working on.

((It's quite all right; you all do what you need to do. I'm the one providing the case, right? )) Penumbra. What could that mean? Cimmerian sat in his flat, his head in his hands. What did Penumbra mean? I answer to Penumbra...Penumbra had to be a person then, or an organization, not a force. Lankins' shadow had let that slip out. But who were they? What did they have to do with this? Penumbra. The word was stuck in his head. Cimmerian took off his glasses, ran a hand through his hair, and continued to mull it over. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- "So what are you accusing him of, exactly." Gilbert shrugged. "Possibly nothing serious. Bad organizational skills or perhaps..something with a secret sort of design. But what good would that do us?" "What do you mean by that?" "Accusing him of secret design. Would that, in fact, do us any good?" "Makes it exciting." "It's an unnannounced suicide. What's exciting about that?" Drummer paused, one eyebrow lifting higher than the other. "You don't think it was suicide?" "I've never thought it was suicide. I announced that first thing." "But you don't have the case file to prove that theory?" " We don't have it, Drummer. You're with me in this." "I know I said this before, but why is this so important?" Gilbert shrugged. "I know I said that I thought somebody didn't want us looking in on Alice Thicket's file, and I pointed my finger directly at Cimmerian. And there's always that possibility. But, there's also the chance that it's just been temporarily mislaid. After all, they all look alike, you know, in their manila folders, which is probably why we got the wrong one to begin with." "You mean the dark-haired bird's file." "Right. She actually did kill herself." "And you definitely don't think Ms. Thicket did that?" "Drummer, what's the point of re-stating information?" "For simple clarification, Gilbert."

Aidan looked around somehow calm. The scene left him in a daze, and he wasn't sure what to do. He looked at Viola for a moment and then back to the scene. Slowly he got on to one knee and pushed himself up. He staggered a little, trying to take one step forward. His arm reached out for the support he knew was there from Viola.
The police just looked on in pity for the poor kid as they went about their work securing the crime scene.

Viola didn't know what to do. She wanted to leave, but they needed some stuff now that they couldn't talk to Kern. But she couldn't move. Kern was like her father since her dad left. He was always there for her and Aidan. Now he was gone....

((It's okay.))
Aidan slowly made his way towards the officers. In the back of his mind he could hear the report going outt. His father wasn't the only one that had died. Apparently the secretary was found in the closet.
One of them shook his head. A young lady that he knew had worked with his dad come up to him and give him a half-hearted hug. He also thought that he had heard an 'I'm sorry', but he wasn't sure.

((Well, I was going to do it anyway, since Dan and Krissi have been begging me to let them do something, and Drummer and Gilbert are pleading with me to let them go to sleep, but I figured I should ask first, so you two can wrap up whatever you need to do...))

((Alright, so, if you two want to wrap up quickly, we can move on to the next morning!))
Gilbert yawned. It was much too late, or early, rather, to be up. The clock on the oven greeted his tired eyes, its numbers blurred and hazed as the Detective Inspector made his way to the bedroom.
His fiancee's form lay peacefully, curled up under the bedclothes, as Gilbert walked over to her and kissed her forehead.
She stirred, looked into his sleepy eyes, and smiled. "Hi, you."
"Hi, you, too." Gilbert went to his side of the bed, sitting down and taking off his shoes.
"What time is it?" murmured Alyssa Harrison, soon to be Alyssa Gilbert.
"Past my bed-time," replied Gilbert, before checking the digital clock beside the bed. "About three-thirty."
"God, you must be exhausted." Alyssa pulled herself up and draped her arms around her soon-to-be husband.
"I am, rather, yes," answered Louis Gilbert, patting her arms as he said so.
She kissed his neck and hugged him, before slumping downwards, back into blissful darkness.
Gilbert loosened his tie, undid his shirt, and fell over before he'd undone his belt. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drummer lived alone.
The dark corridors of his block of flats constantly reminded him of this one, lonely fact.
He slid his key into the knob and turned it, hearing the tumblers click as the door swung open, revealing chez Drummer.
Drummer shed his shoes and coat by the doorstep, not caring whether they were directly in his way or not. The tie and shirt fell by the living area, the belt and pants by the kitchenette.
Drummer dove into his bed, in nothing but his boxers, pulled the pillow over his head, and fell fast asleep.

Slowly, realizations came into Aidan's mind. The realization that yes, this is all real. The realization on how late it was. And the realization that his life would forever be changed. He turned to speak to Viola, suggest that maybe they should go ahead and head home, when all of a sudden he could not breath. It felt like the very life was being squeezed from him.
He fell onto his knees again, scraping them as he went forward. He slumped to the ground, his head making an audible crack, causing all heads to turn in his direction. Quickly, the unneeded paramedics jumped into action, glad to actually be doing something. They did not notice the red marks on Aidan's neck that would soon bruise. All they saw was a poor boy who had just fainted from Lord knows how much stress, exhaustion, and grief.
They looked towards Viola to see if she would follow into the ambulance. Next stop would be the hospital. Aidan needed to stay overnight; just in case he had received a concussion.
