"Come in to my parlor, said the spider to the fly...." whispered the dark voice of Timothy Cimmerian.
"Come again?"
Cimmerian's head whipped up and about, his glasses sliding down his nose. There stood the detectives Gilbert and Drummer, the two who'd been assigned Miss Thickets' case. Cimmerian released a nervous laugh, a short burst of levity, which really fell out of place in the morgue.
"Are dead bodies amusing?" questioned Gilbert, "Huh! I shall have to come down here more often! A laugh a minute, hey?"
Cimmerian smiled easily, an oily smile, Drummer thought it would have been attractive had it not been quite so hurried, before rebutting, "No, no indeed. I was just....caught off guard, is all. Most everyone else has gone home..."
Gilbert cracked an easier smile than Cimmerian's, before running a thin-fingered hand through his dark hair and beginning with, "Miss Thickets' file seems to be missing, and-"
"We need it," finished Drummer. "It is kind of important, after all."
Cimmerian, now completely composed, nodded. "Of course. I can see that."
"Oh, you can! Excellent! An autopsy man with a head on his shoulders! I never thought I'd live to see the day!"
"Night, actually," corrected Cimmerian, to no one in particular, other than himself.
Gilbert did not hear this comment, merely gestured to see if it was permissable for him to invade.
Cimmerian nodded once more, waving him onwards. "By all means. Nose about all you like!"
Drummer gave him a meaningless smile before joining his begrudged partner.
Cimmerian stared at them, his eyes black as a shark's, before his fingers mechanically tickled the computer's keyboard. How's this for a parlor, little fly? thought the police scientist, Come in, come in, please, come in....
From the pale, flourescent light flickering from the hallway, Gilbert's shadow gave a small, half-hearted wave.
Cimmerian nodded once, deeply, before turning his bespectacled eyes back to the screen. You're mine now, you little fly...
The shadow rubbed its hands together and resumed its normal position as if nothing had ever happened.

Kern came out of the autopsy room, walking into the main area. Now where had the other two gone? They were looking for another autopsy file, and Kern needed to glance at that one too. He just shook his head, it really didn't seem like it was important at the moment.
Deciding to go back to work in at his desk, he went back to his office. He looked around for the secretary, not knowing where she was. Checking his computer, she hadn't clocked out yet. He shook his head. What was with her lately? She had been acting strange for a while now. It really was starting to get onto his nerves.

Finally Viola got into the system. She tapped Aidan on the shoulder and said,"Hurry! Write it down before they block me out again."

Aidan nodded, quickly grabbing up his pen and paper and shorthanding what he saw. Each word was carefully written, but also written fast. He hurried to get everything down before they were kicked out... again. Once he finished with the first autopsy, he hurriedly began the next one.
"How many are there?"

Viola grabbed a pencil and paper along with Aidan and started copying down the different victims. "I don't know just get as many down as you can. The more you have the more evidence we can work with."
She kept on writing as fast and legibly as she could hoping her hacking wouldn't get blocked somehow..again. As soon as she got the last person written down and making sure that Aidan didn't have the same ones, the screen went black. A sigh seeped out of her mouth.

"Ooh..." mumured Cimmerian, "The cold hand of 'denied' just knocked you upside the head..."
Gilbert pursed his lips, searching for Ms. Thickets' file. His fingers ticked off folder after folder, explored file cabinet after file cabinet, yet nothing showed. "Dammit..."
Drummer, on the other hand, though he had not succeeded himself, found great joy in knowing that Gilbert had not emerged triumphant, either. "Another dead end, eh, Gilbert?"
"No, no....there's no case," replied Gilbert. "I'm not exactly sure how we'll solve a murder with no case file to draw back on..."
Cimmerian's eyes snapped up from the computer monitor, peering from behind black-rimmed glasses. "What do you need to know?"
"Time of death, social life of Alice Thickets, you know, generic this-that-and-the-other..."
One side of Timothy Cimmerian's mouth twitched upwards in a sort-of-smile. It more resembled a smirk. "Sure thing. Just pull it up on the computer; all the files are stored there..."
Gilbert gulped. Computers? He wasn't entirely sure how his fiancee made the slideshow presentation for their wedding, let alone how she typed up the invitations. "Can't we just do it on paper?"
Drummer, for once, had the upper hand. "Come on, Gilbert. I'll help you figure it out."
Cimmerian nodded, gave a tiny smile, and said, "There's a good chap..."
This was before the cart wheeled in another body, a young lady, blonde, with her green eyes wide open in horror. --------------------------------------------------------------------
"Krissi....Krissi, baby, wake up..."
"Danny?" whispered the sleepy, not-at-all-awake voice of his tiny sister.
"Yeah, honey, it's Dan-Dan. Listen, babe, I want you to get in the piggy-back-bag I got for you, okay?"
"Why, Dan-Dan?" Krissi rolled over in bed, which consisted of some couch pillows and a moth-ridden blanket, Big prostrate beside her.
"Because, baby, we're going away."
"On vacation?"
"No, sweetie, we're gonna play a game."
"Can Big play too?"
Daniel Chevalglass smiled, his eyes almost luminescent in the Darkness. "Yeah, honey, of course Big can play..."
Krissi flopped out of her makeshift bed, propped herself upright, and pattered towards the child sling Daniel had gotten from a couple who didn't need it anymore. He slung it across his back as she slid herself in, before Daniel strapped on two messenger bags full of clothes and food: crackers, bottles of water, some carrots, and the like. "Baby, we're gonna play hide and seek with Mommy."
"Mommy's gonna play with us?"
"It's a real big game, baby. We hide and make sure she doesn't find us. We make sure nobody finds us, or else the game is over. Understand?"
Krissi nodded solemnly, Big strangling beneath her affectionate grasp, before Daniel turned, his sister and his supplies strung across his narrow, bony back, and turned from the dismal flat.
His reflection watched him go.

Aidan put his tired hands behind his head and leaned back. "Did we get them all?" He really hoped that she said yes. Looking down at their pieces of paper, he decided that it looked like they had them all. "Well... I guess there really isn't much we can do here. You wanna go to the coffee shop and look these over with some mochas or whatever you want?"
He started to swipe up the papers that he had filled with various victims stats. He shook his head, "I kinda wish we had the pictures to..."

Viola sighed. "Well I'm not to sure we can find our way back in. Whoever is monitoring the system is probably a higher standard than I am even at yet, and you know how high i go with hacking."
As soon as she finished the sentence, her cell phone rang. Viola grabbed it out of her pocket and check to see who was calling. Rolling her eyes she answered and mouthed Mom to Aidan.
"Hey sweetie. I called home and you didn't answer. Is everything alright?"
"Yea, Mom. I'm over at Aidan's place." There was a little irritation in her voice as she spoke, hoping to get off so they could head to the coffee shop.
"Oh, yes. You would be there. How long do you think you will be staying?"
"I don't know, Mom."
"Well if it gets to late I don't want you walking home all alone."
"Well I don't want to have Aidan walking me and then have to walk alone to get back."
Silence was on the other end.
"If it gets to late..I'm sure Aidan's father wouldn't mind me staying the night. I have done it before." Viola looked at Aidan to see if it was alright.
"You two aren't trying to get information on some case again, are you?"
Viola paused. "No, mom. Look we were just getting ready to go to the coffee shop, can I talk to you later?"
"Yes that would be fine. Talk to you later sweetie." Click
"Bye," Viola said to the quiet phone. Turning to Aidan she sighed. "Normally she doesn't call so much. She must be really worried with the recent murders. Before we go i need to go to the restroom."
After flushing the toilet, Viola checked herself in the mirror. Yea..I look alright, she thought. As she started to leave she thought she saw her reflection move her arm as if waving goodbye. Looking back at the mirror, she just saw her reflection smiling back..but she wasn't smiling. Shaking her head she exited the room.

Aidan met her by the front door, "ready?" He didn't add that the shadows were playing with his eyes and he was starting to get freaked out. Being around more people would definitly help.

"Dan-Dan, it's dark and cold and I'm scared..." whispered Krissi.
Daniel surged ahead through the woods, managing to keep his every movement as silent as death itself. "Shh, Krissi, baby. Remember the game?"
Krissi nodded and bowed her head, clutching Big to her in an effort to lift her four-year-old spirits.
The moon was full, silver in colour, and painfully bright, so much so as to rival a cloudy day. Daniel swore, under his breath, of course, lest Krissi add any surprises to her vocabulary, wishing the moon would just go back to its normal brightness.
The moon is a reflection of the sun's light, whispered the part of his brain that had remembered something from Geology in school.
School. He was leaving that, too. No chance for education, no hope for a better, brighter future. He would be labeled as a drop-out, a failure, unless he masqueraded as a single dad. He looked old enough, he thought; his eyes looked as if they held centuries and reflected them all back in an instant.
Maybe he could scrape up enough funds to put Krissi through, once he found somewhere stable. She wasn't mature enough to be one of the brighter elementary-schoolers, the ones that start at four, so he had that in his favour.
Still, he reminded himself, She does deserve a life, even if I couldn't have one...
You're a reflection, whispered another voice, entirely inside his head, You don't have a life...

The walk there was a little weird. Viola was sort of freaked due to the fact that her eyes were messing with the shadows around her.
When they walked in the smell of coffee over took Viola's sence of smell. It smelled so good. She walked up to the register and ordered. "I would like a chocolate, caramel mocha please."
She looked back at Aidan and smiled, her eyes still messing with her.

Aiden was relaxed on the walk over, ignoring the playful shadows. It was a little chilly out, but not enough to make him be uncomfortable.
Walking into the coffee shop he embraced the warmth and scent of the whole building. Walking up at the counter he glanced over the menu before making his decisiong. "I'd like to have a caramel latte please." He didn't really want it, but he wasn't in the mood for a black coffee and it was next thing that sound any good.
Aidan got his drink and smiled at Viola, "well, where do you want to sit?"

Viola looked around the shop trying to find a place to sit where no one could hear them. She spotted a booth in the corner where the closest person was about three booths away. She grabbed Aidans hand and pulled him to the booth.
"Let's sit here," she said smiling at him. She tried to make it seem like two friends just here to chat over nothing important. "This way no one can hear us," she added at the end.
Viola took a seat and took a sip of her coffee. The sweet tast of the caramel filled her mouth. The warmth overtook her mouth as well. It had been a while since she had come here for coffee that she had forgotten the wonderful flavor.

Aidan nodded his head, trying a smile on as if he was an actual carefree teenager. He sat down across from Viola, thick yellow folder containing all of their research. He took a took a long drink of the hot latte, allowing it to calm his senses.
He looked up at Viola, "ready to get back into this?" Really he wasn't ready to do it... there was just something about this particular case that made him unnerved. He looked at the files and a laugh escaped.

Viola tooked a deep breathe and exhaled quickly. "Okay, let's do it."
Aidan let out a bit of a laughed and Viola looked at him confused. "What's so funny?" She waited on his answer, but before he could answer she added,"You aren't going looney on me are you?"
She chuckled at the thought.
