The damp cell was large, but had only one door. People were everywhere. No one in chains besides the few nuts that had lost their mind to the battles. Efir was propped against a wall, one arm across his lap, clutching his newest wound on his hip. Those horibble monsters had set him up to fight a zarpa this time (a large creature with scythe like claws). He looked around the room, spotting several others, many fit and strong, for special battles usualy. They knew that if they made a good show their masters mauld be... a little less harsh. However Efir payed no heed to those. He worried more about the others who were not strong. Most were kamen. Some were half, mixed with procion. And there were even a few humans. "Hunf", he snorted to himself, "They pick on us because we are smaller... They would never consider capturing a prĂ³cion warrior."

One of the slaves came to bring them their food; fighters couldn't be left to starve. Usually, the food was brought to them by a kamen child, but today it was an older kamen girl in loose shackles. She started handing the eager prisoners what she held in a bowl, not lifting her head. It was frightening here and very sad; she didn't want to see her own in those cruel conditions and pathetic state. Kamen weren't meant to be locked up in a pit. Their sorry faces and gruesome wounds would only lesson her courage (which could hardly go any lower at this time) The smell here was terrible; blood and dank and clothes fur being the most prominant (thankfully). ((I'm assuming Kamen are omnivores? Organic Meganus probably eat meat, right? Do they also eat fruits or vegetables or are they strictly carnivores? Anyway, Efir might recognize her...))

((Yep.. kamen are omnivores... but meganus are strictly carni...))
Efir looked up to see the girl with the food. At first, wanted nothing more than SOMETHING to eat, ANYTHING would be fine! But his sight shifted suddenly towards the girl's clothes. Not that there was much to see... The meganus didn't take their clothes from them, because they really had no use for them. But they got torn up and dirty, to the point of becoming simple rags. However, her's were not dirty enough to conceal all color. He caught specks of blue and yellow, his clan's colors! He wasnt alone in this pit!
As she neared him, he lifted a hand to grab some of the terrible food the demons expected them to live on, and looked up at her. "Hello?", he said, half expecting her to look at him.

((the Meganus probably feed them meat, then, since they don't have a use for vegetation themselves)) That voice was familiar.... she couldn't place it.... almost, but do name came to mind. It had been a long time since their clan had been raided by the meganus. They were a small and poor clan; defense was weak. The monsters had just about wiped the Spiros from existance. The voice could belong to anyone she knew; anyone. It was a welcome sound, but she didn't want to look up and see an old friend who would most likely be killed in the arena soon. "Hello," she said back, holding the bowl forward, but still looking down. Her matted tail brushed up and down much like someone would tap a foot. She kept her eyes on the ground. ((Anyone else going to join? ))

((some want to, but havent yet for some random reason =P))
"You're from the Spiro clan, right?", he asked her, "I was told I was the last. I was almost giving up any hope of restoring the clan", he said, munching on the meat.

((you killed Kendi?!?! J/K)) "Th-the last?" The other's voice trembled. Were they really all that was left? No wonder she hadn't met any others yet. They were of the last few, -if not the last. Hope for the clan would die with this prisoner. She dared to raise her eyes toward him. His clothes were faded, bloody, and in shreds; she wouldn't have known his clan he had not told her. His hair was blonde and his eyes were gold. But she did recognize him... a small gasp left her mouth, "Efir?" she stepped forward and embraced him. ((aw, how cute. ^^ you remember that they're siblings, right?))

((no.. didnt kill anyone =P he said, and I quote "They TOLD me I was the last"... who 'they' are, I dont know =P and yes. I remember they are bros.))
Efir suddenly realized who the girl was. "Wen? You're ALIVE!", he exclaimed, "I felt horrible when they told me I was alone... That would mean you were dead. But you're not, and that means we were lied to! We can't be the last!" He looked around at the other prisoners, the colors were hard to tell apart from the mud and blood, but so far he had not seen any other clansmen... "They arent making you fight are they?", he asked hopefully.

((I know, just kidding! and Wen isn't his "bro" as she is his sister. )) Wen had dirty tears on her cheeks, "No," she sobbed. She was having trouble telling him what she was doing, "I... clean up the arena... after the battles!" She looked half-terrified, "sometimes there are bodies still out there when they send us out!" Wen had seen many gruesome things since she and her brother had last been together. She lowered her voice, "I don't want to have to drag your body away!" "I'm starving!" someone called from the other side of the room. ((sorry to make her so emotional! But yeah... I'd be freaked out too))

((hehe =P I know.))
"Well I'm at least a bit relieved... I don't want you fighting for their fun...", he looked over to the person calling, "You should go take them some food... and try to smile. It will lighten the mood I think... Trust me.", he said, trying to sound cheerfull, even though this wasn't much of a place that cheer would easily settle. They had no guards in the room at all... Their captors sent in other slaves with food and water, and the place was constantly closed. And with the terrible creatures prowling around outside, these rooms were the closest thing to "safe-heavens", despite their horrible nature. Even though they were amongst their kin, most had either lost all hope of survival, or tried to grasp at some sort of idea that somehow they would make it out alive, or that someone would come and free them.

Wen tried, but failed. She finished handing out the food quickly, and then looked at each face for someone she recognized, regretting it soon afterward. These weren't the torn-up remains of the dead, but the hopeless faces of the living, and it only made her face worse. Wen ran back to Efir, wanting to stay with someone she knew for as long as possible. ((what does a meganus city look like? You need to update the manga so we can see! =P))

((hehe I dont know =P Meganus are Arthur's domain... I'll ask hima bou tit when I get the chance.))
Efir enjoyed the company as he could. No one else seemed in the mood to talk. He however had other thoughts in mind. "What if we were to find a way to escape...?", he said half mockingly. A few slaves turned their eyes. They must have been thinking something along the lines of 'Oh boy... give up, you have no chance." He knew what they thought. He half thought it himself. "Seriously then... If we were to even try... how would we do it?", He looked around, examining the half careless expressions, "It's not like we have a lot to lose, right?"

"The beasts who own me let me move around the chambers freely," Wen said, "they give you your weapons before you enter the areana, so they should keep them somewhere close. I might be able to at least find out where they are. -they have my weapon too," The meganus had little to fear from the small children wandering about the halls of the prison below the arena. They were all terrified of their captors and would never risk snooping around to see if there were any unlocked doors.

"True... They have nothing to fear from your snooping... and that's not what worries me. The real problems come if you are caught, snooping.", He stated, "Meganus are arrogant, but intolerant... If you arent forcefully helping them, you are a hindrance to be easily removed.."

"So you want me to watch you die?" Wen argued. She threw up a hand, "if you are so afraid for me, you might as well walk out there in my clothes and do it yourself," she pouted, "I would lose you anyway,"

0.o <--- was aproximately the face he made.
"Well I hardly think I would make a convincing "you"....", he said, "So our dillema is still the same. You can't die, I can't die, but somehow we need to get out. "Last time I was in the arena... They sent in another 2 guys with me. 3 of us against that huge creature... We won, sure, but of us was mortally injured..." he paused. "I wonder... Some time ago they were sending bigger numbers... aparently we get better over time... Soon they will send solos... What happens when we get too good? Will they make us fight other slaves?" This was a scary thought for him. He would never hurt someone unless they were trying to hurt him... And he had a hard time imagining another kamen agreeing to fight...

Wen felt sick at teh thought. "What keeps you from attacking the spectators?" she wondered.
|
|
|
Post by spirogs on Apr 9, 2008 20:06:21 GMT -6
"Fear of what they would do. After all, the spectators are meganus too...", he stated, "There has to be some way out of this mess...".
But that was the exact reason why people lost hope. They had a very hard time finding any possible 'not risky' plan of escape. They had to tools to dig a way out of the underground room, and to get tools, they would have to snoop. And that meant danger for anyone.

Wen had also come to that conclusion, "so, to find a way out, we will need to risk being caught. You don't have anything to lose, yourself, and I would rather die than stay here anyway,"
