Arabella watched as Gabriel woke up and gasp in pain. She cringed as she saw him lay back down in pain. The thought of anything like this happening never really occured to her. Everything from last night was still going through her head, but none of it made sense. Why did this happen?
Gabriel started talking and Arabella sighed in relief. At least he was talking. Even though she could hear the pain in his voice, she was still happy that he was going to be okay.
The doctor still creeped her out, but Gabriel knew him right away. This made her feel a little more safe knowing that Gabriel knew him. One thing did surprise her a little bit. Gabriel was really worried about her. Maybe he really is just here for me and not doing what my brother wanted him to do.
"Um....Arabella? How are you feeling?"
Arabella could still hear the pain in his voice. "Yes, I'm fine. I'm more worried about you right now."

Gabriel nodded trying not to yell out as pain sprung on him again, all new.
Japeth made a noise, similar to a tsking and then started to give Gabriel some sutures. "Ah, I am done..." Japeth paused, he knew what would come next. He never enjoyed this part of his job, but all the assasins were the same.
"Help me up." Japeth simply nodded and began the slow, ardious work of turning Gabriel over. A couple of minutes later, Gabriel sat on the ground, leaning heavily against the couch.
Japeth picked up a sheet of paper and began to read it to Gabriel. "Ah, so most of the, ah, clean-up work has been done. Damages fixed. Objects replaced." He looked up, "They, ah put a new security system in. It should, ah, help."
Gabriel nodded and looked at Arabella. She did not look fine. She looked like she barely slept without a nightmare haunting her. He looked down. He knew that her new look is his fault.

Arabella was so confused by the conversation going on. None of it made sense to her, but Gabriel just nodded like he understood. So he did know what was going on. She watched him as he tried to not yell out in pain. He knew things she didn't and she wanted answers. But she could wait till he was a little better.

Gabriel took a deep breath, working hard to get past the pain like all his past training had taught him. He looked Japeth in the eye. "We can't go back for a while though, eh?"
Gabriel motioned with his head towards Arabella, "besides the point that I don't think it's safe..." He did not mention that fact that Arabella would probably end up loosing sleep going back to where it had all happened.
Japeth nodded, "They, ah, wanted me to make sure you said that. Boss says that you need to duck down for a while." He paused as Gabriel shook his head. "Ah, Angel... you know that it's the best for you. Ah, If you really don't care about you're health, then think of Arabella. She, ah, is under your care. Do not, ah, think that your life will not effect hers."
Gabriel shook his head... he knew, he knew. That only made it easier for him to do this, though he was not sure if it would work. He looked at Arabella. "You, probably have some questions... huh?"
Taking a deep breath, as if to prepare himself for what's to come. "You might as well ask away. No one else here to hear you, and Doc won't breathe a word as long as I'm breathing."

"You, probably have some questions... huh," Gabriel asked. It was a really stupid question. Of course she had questions! Why wouldn't she?! Arabella didn't respond like that though. She nodded and paused, thinking through her questions wondering which she should ask first.
"What exactly happened last night?" This one seemed the most important to her. It would probably answer most of the questions that were running through her head in the first place. Arabella hoped that this would also explain who this man was and why he kept calling Gabe Angel. "And I want the full truth, Gabe."

((The truth?! You can't handle the truth!-Jack Nicholson Sorry, couldn't help myself XD))
"Truly? I don't know. What do I think it was? Someone trying to get to me..." Gabriel paused, unsure how to say what he needed to say. "Now that the truth has gotten out about you. Because of me, you aren't safe on your own anymore."
Gabriel pulled his legs up to rest his arms on them. "Because of me, you are in more danger than Carter ever really believed." Slowly his head rested ontop of his arms, defeated. This was the first time that it really did hit him.
Carter asked Gabriel to protect Arabella... he ended up doing the opposite by trying to protect her. Just by being around Arabella, he brought the same people into her life that had killed her brother.
Japeth shook his head, not talking. It wasn't something for him to be a part of. He didn't even move to console Gabriel, as he would normally do. As he had done back when Gabriel's parents had died.

Everthing Gabriel was saying wasn't making any sense to Arabella. Nothing peiced together. Why would anyone be after him? Why would being with him put her in danger?
When he finally paused, she spoke with a confused look on her face. "I don't understand, Gabe. Why would they be after you? And what does Carter have anything to do with this?"

Gabriel took a deep breath. "I am an... assassin. I kill...... people for money. People want me dead... bad people. It's these people that are trying to get to me. That means getting people close to me like you..." Gabriel's voice broke, he couldn't take the next part. The part where he told her that his life choices killed her brother.
"Like Carter..."

Like Carter....
Arabella couldn't speak. She was in shock at Gabriels words. An assasin? He wasn't joking either. She could tell by the seriousness in his words. Nothing came to mind to say. What could she say? Gabriel was the reason Carter was dead. But could she really blame him for it?
A tear escaped and slid down her cheek. Her eyes were glued to the floor. No words coming from her mouth. There was nothing for her to say...

Gabriel chanced a look up at Arabella as the tear escaped her eye. "Arabella..... I'm sorry." Slowly Gabriel forced his battered body onto the couch beside Arabella.
"There isn't anything I can do... to make this right except keep it from happening to you. That's what I plan to do." He paused, what did he need to say? What could he say? Nothing would ease the pain of her loss. The fact that he practically caused it did not help.
He wouldn't blame her if she hated him. She yelled at him. If she told him to get lost. Though it would hurt him, he would back out of her way. He would guard her from afar, making sure no harm befall her.

Arabella didn't know what to say. Gabriel basically just told her that the death of her brother was his fault. An Assassin? How long had he been hiding this from her. Did Carter even know about it? She raised her hand to her face and wiped away the tear.
Gabriel was Carters best friend. There was no way she could blame this on him and just expect to kick him out of her life. It would be too weird since he had been apart of her life for years. She made eye contact with him and spoke. "I don't blame you. I probably won't ever really understand and I'm not going to throw you out of my life because of the recent events." Nothing else came to mind to say, so she just leaned onto his chest and hugged him.

Gabriel winced as Arabella leaned into him, but he wrapped his other hand around her. He was lucky. Lucky that she didn't run away screaming. Call him a murderer. This, was something unexpected. A reaction that never even occured to him.
He took a deep breath and then let it all out. This was something he wanted to protect. He couldn't see yet another piece of his life killed because of something he did. Or he didn't do.
Slowly, Gabriel pulled back and looked at Japeth. "How much time do we have?"
Japeth thought for a moment mulling over all of the pieces of the equations. "Ah, I would have to say about... ah, two weeks."
Gabriel nodded. Two weeks to get ready. Two weeks to heal. Two weeks to get everything together. Two weeks to prepare Arabella. Two weeks... such a small deadline for something so big. But Gabriel knew that he would be ready

Warmth. Arabella felt warmth in Gabriels hug. She felt safe in his arms. Probably because he was an assassin, but really had nothing to do with it.
Japeth told Gabriel that they had to two weeks to prepare. Arabella didn't know what she was going to do in those two weeks but she was pretty sure Gabriel had a plan. She trusted him just as much as Carter had. "So what is the plan?"

"The plan is to stay here, fortify this apartment, to stock up weapons, and most importantly keep you safe. Details will arrive later." Gabriel looked up at Japeth knowingly. He tried to laugh.
"Ask Doc, I'm not that great with the details."

Arabella giggled at Gabriels details. They were very explanatory. The next two weeks should be interesting, she thought to herself. Slowly, she let go of Gabriel, not wanting to hurt him. She looked towards Japeth and smiled, wondering if he would answer to Gabriels statement.

Gabriel smiled at Arabella's giggles, the day was starting to look up. Japeth smiled back at Arabella.
"Well ah, really Angel does more of ah, thinking on the job. Ah, there are other people that get most of the ah logistics of his missions." Gabriel gave Japeht a mock glare.
"You make me sound like a simpleton Doc." Japeth smiled and then made a face like he just remembered something.
"Oh yes, Angel? Ah, Boss said that you were suposed to meet. Ah, as soon as you were concious is, ah preferable."
Gabriel nodded, "Is she anywhere near here?"

"Am I anywhere near?"
Arabella was startled by the added voice to the conversation. Not only did the voice scare her, but the woman walking out from a room surprised her to. The woman was gorgeous, too. She had long red hair, green eyes, a great figure, and such an innocent face you wouldn't expect her to be the boss of assassins.
The woman walked straight up to Arabella, her hand held out. "Hi, I'm Myra Roberts. It's nice to meet you."
Myra immediately turned to Gabriel. "So, do you have any idea who ambushed you last night or why?"

Gabriel shook his head. "Not at all. There were no defining fighting characteristics to place them in a faction of some sorts, and there were no original weapons that I could see." Gabriel paused and looked at Japeth. "I don't think they left anything either. The only actual bullet shells should be from my gun, and they probably grabbed my knife which would contain a blood sample of one of the men." A nod from Japeth told them that he was correct.
"There was no unnecessary speaking... really it seemed like a routine job that we would execution Boss." Gabriel looked at her questioningly. He figured that it wasn't from the same company, because of the reaction time from Japeth and Boss herself. But, if anything was amiss in the company, Myra was the one to go to.
