The wind howled fiercely that dim evening. One did not feel its sting when underground though. It had been this way for weeks; dull and dank, cold and horrible. The food tasted like horse feed. Oh yes, that it was. How could she forget? With a sigh, the maiden turned over, laying her head against rough, tan, hide. A grunt escaped her make-shift pillow. She looked up in the thick darkness and could just barely see the quizzical ruby eyes staring down at her. "Gaddan, sh," She whispered, puting a finger to her lips. "Tomorrow, I will be sent out with the recruting party. I have not been out of here for so long..." The dragon narrowed his eyes and she assured him, "Oh no, I will be back after the party gathers enough fighters from the villiage." She raised her head, now eye-level with the resting beast, "You know that if this fort is taken, the enemy will slaughter all our men, and destroy the eggs. Afterward, they will move on to the nearby cities and take the people there. You are one of the last of your species... and soon it will be the same for us as well." The beast closed his eyes in a nod of sorts. "I want you to do well in your work tomorrow while I am away. I only hope that we will find more fighters," --- The next day before dawn, a small group of nine hooded people sneaked away from the fort, heading for the nearest small town. It was very cold, and for the first time in many days, the girl felt more than the dull air of it. Here in the open, the wind hit her hard and full, ripping at her. She pulled the cloak tighter. They must be quick about it, for a battle would be fought in the valley soon. They could not know when, but they had felt it as they opened their eyes today, every one of them, man, woman, and beast. -even the horses.

It was beggining to dawn, and the wind howled outside the bar. Clay woke up and looked around. He partied too late. 'Good morning' greeted the bartender. Clay grunted. He had a headache. 'There are people coming', said a voice in Clay's head. He knew it was Fafnir. The young dragon who's egg he had won in a gamble. Everyone thought it was a large beautifull stone before. Clay did not believe it was chance that lead him to the dragon's egg, but he did consider himself lucky for it. 'What people?', he asked back through his mind. Fafnir glided in the dark sky above. 'Nine people in cloaks. They are coming quickly in the town's direction' Clay stood up, and whiped his brow. 'I'll meet you outside' he replied. --------------------------------------
Outside the bar, Clay looked up at the sky. The sun was comming up. Fafnir landed a few feet away rather clumsily. He reared his head into the direction of the people he saw. Clay followed his gaze, and sure enough, small hooded figures could be seen in the distance.

The grouped split apart like water over stone and the indivisuals each went to a different place, unintentionally leaving the tavern for the young woman to face. "Oh," She groaned with an eye roll. She had done it before; might as well go at it again. She squinted her eyes once before storming toward the building and shoving the door open, -not knowing that Clay was on the other side.

'Well that was wierd', Clay said. He stared at Fafnir. 'You woke me up for this!?' he said angrily. The blue dragon looked back at him with an expression of falling pride. 'I thought it might be important...', he said, 'Strange hooded people. Lots of them, and comming here! In the early dawn? Isn't it wierd?'
Clay looked at with an understanding look. After all... Fafnir had only been born a month or so ago... 'It's alright', he said finaly. 'I'm going back into the pub.' And he went back in the doors as Fafnir nodded and took off again into the air. He wanted to practise his flying.

'GAH' , he exclaimed, and rubbed his hurting face. He looked up to see the person who had just hit him with the door, ready to do some punching. But suddenly he noticed it was a hooded girl. 'Fafnir was right...', he said Ironicly, 'The people in cloaks might be out to get me.' , he said with a grunt.

((*rofl*)) "Oh, forgive me, sir!" The girl was sheepish. She slowly and hesitantly made her way inside, "Are you hurt?" Some men turned their heads as they heard Clay yell, but they lost interest as soon as the strange girl began talking to him.

'No... not hurt', he answered. 'Just a bit startled'. *grins maliciously* 'But yeh can buy me a paint to make up fer it', he said motioning for the bartender. 'By the wee, what is a girl like yeh doin in a place like this one, eh? Yeh look a bit young for drinkin arent ya?'

The girl was wide-eyed for a moment, but she composed herself. She decided to take a risk and be blunt, "Have you seen any... dragons here? I am certainly not too young to drink. -I but chose not to do so." She did not feel comfortable being here. The young woman doubted very much that any of these men were sane and sober, -much less, heroic riders of dragons.

Clay began coughing loudly when he heard her words. But soon cleared his throat. 'Dragons? What do yeh want them for?', he asked suprisedly. And furtively looked out a window to make sure Fafnir wasn't staring in. 'Would a wee lass such as yeh want with Dragons?'

She noticed that the man was anxious. Smiling, she said, "So you have. Who keeps the dragon? I am looking for riders of dragons. You speak of my size and age so that I have no doubt you should fear me. Tell me what you know and I will buy you a drink," She felt that that was fair enough. Surely he would take her offer very quickly if he had nothing to hide.

The girl still did not trust him fully, but she thought that if he were an enemy, she could find a way to knock him out. She leaned in close, "There is an army of men foriegn to this land a few miles from here. Perhaps you have heard of them? -you must ignore the common knowledge; they are not made-up tales. They truly have been raiding hundreds of villages and cities for the past year. It is a shame our stupid king choses to ignore them. An army has been gathering in the surrounding forests. The first time we battled, we realized that their strength and weapons surpassed our own. The only step we have on them is our dragons. They know that. Very soon, they will send men to come looking for the dragons here so they can destroy them."

Clay jumped from his seat suddenly! 'DESTROY THE DRAGONS?!?!', he yelled, and several heads turned again. But soon merely ignored him as another drunk Irishman raving about dragons...
'Iv'e gotta warn Fafnir!!!' and he ran outside once again, trying to contact the dragon with his mind. 'Fafnir! Ye've gotta come dewn!! We have bad news!'

((I gotta go. Last post for me tonight)) The girl just smiled. She had found a rider on her first try. It was also surprising that he actually believed her. Many were comfortably ignorant because of the king's claims that the invaders did not exist. She felt that she must celebrate... oh, some real food sounded wonderful after all this time! She would go and find some after this. The maiden followed Clay outside quickly. "Do you want to join our army?" Her voice was a shout at first, but she lowered it to a whisper as she began attracting attention.

((Ok... Me too. Probably be on tomorrow some time... probalby same time =P)) Fafnir stood there eyeing the girl with its great Yellow eyes. He most definetly looked far to young to make much of a diference in a battle.... Clay looked back at the girl. 'Yeh should be more quiet aboot enemies and armies. People notice, and panick.' 'As fer me... Im not so sure aboot yer request... what's in it fer meh?', he asked, doubting this girl knew much about battles and fighting.

((Hehehe, I sneaked on for a bit. -I couldn't go to sleep this early if I tried anyway. Just one last post.)) "You will have safety for you and your dragon," The girl replied seriously. "we are camped within a large fort at the moment. Even if it is taken, is it not better to be around other dragons than try to escape by yourself? It is not an enjoyable place to be for long, I should say, but we need you and very soon you will need us. If you scoff and turn away now, you will learn later that it is so." She turned and looked about at the smiling people, just living their lives, "I want no panic, but they should know the truth sometime as it is this village that will be under attack if we cannot hold our position in battle," This talk of war and battle was tiring for the woman. Her own voice seemed annoying to her as though she were being a nag. -that was not very fun.

Clay looked around at the people, going about their buisness, oblivious to what was going on... He turned to Fafnir, asking him in his mind what they should do. 'We should go with her, I think.' replied the dragon, 'If she's telling the truth, then it would be a good Idea to go with her...'
Clay looked again at the innocent people among the streets. 'Wha aboot them?' , he pointed to the people, 'Woon't they be in danger too?'. The read hedded man began to search the horizon fearfully.

The girl nodded, "If we can't hold them back, they will raid the village, but for now we have them distracted. Even now, the others are preparing for battle. I do not fight myself, -I am not good at fighting. I ride and train Gaddan, my dragon, so he can fight. This first one you can watch if you want. -I doubt your dragon, Fafnir, you said? would do well, young as he is. Well," She tried to raise the mood, "We should introduce ourselves properly. As of right now, I know not my name, but the others call me 'Cari', which is short for 'precarious'. I was given that name because that is how I move and what it is like to be around me as I am always finding myself in those situations. I should say it is a better name than 'clumsy' -another name that discribes me as you probably noticed when I hit you with the door. Anyway, I am Cari, what is your name?" ((this is Kendiana, but she lost her memory. Yes, I do this all the time with my characters, but it's fun and I haven't roleplayed with you yet so it doesn't matter if I do it again. XD))

((Cool =D)) 'Is that so Cari? Hehe, ye sound liek a dangerous person to stand by. As fer meh, ye can call me Clay. Clay O'Nalley.'
He looked thoughtfully at His dragon. 'Aye... I agree he's not yet suited for battle... I however can feight. I'm a swordsman.', he said with a grin, pointing with a thumb signal to the curved sword on his back. Clay nodded to Fafnir. 'We've decided than. Well be commin'with yeh..' 'So...', he looked around, 'Where are your friends?'
